I´m staying in Husavik and found your site invaluable.I´m just an English civil servant but I am interested in natural phenomena. Yesterday, after driving north from Husavik along the Tjörnes Peninsula we saw an amazing line which seemed to denote a demarcation of waters:on the west side the water was a much darker blue than that on the east. Could this be the convergence of the currents? Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Michele

Very concerned about what affect the ocean currents in the Gulf will have on the BP oil spill. I annually travel to Key West for the opening of lobster season on August 6th and was trying to get as much information as possible on what will happen in the long term with the oil and where it could go. The longer it continues to spew, the more oil is dumped into Gulf waters that have to go somewhere.

With BP only getting 20% (+) of the discharge via the syphon method, it looks like it will get into the Loop current of the Gulf very soon. Then through and around the Florida Keys, up the east coast and into the Atlantic. And no cutoff date in sight, it could continue for months or more. [ depression follows as I think of the consequences.]

I pay child support and love my (2) boys dearly (6 and 13 years old). I see them every week and want to leave a legacy, that through continuous studying, reading and persistence in research, you will be rewarded. I want to do it through UM- can you help me? I have used your website data previously as background for an alternate history short story series relating to colonization of Suriname in the 1630s (the series is within Eric Flint's 1632 Universe). I recently returned to your website, to look for data on the Pacific Current, and was disappointed to see that you didn't have this yet. I have another alternate history series in the works in which Japanese Christians are sent into exile in North America, and I wanted to see how close the Pacific current came to the Aleutians.

Excellent work! NOAA should provide grants and funding to accelerate your work for the Pacific ocean.
